The orphanage

Im not a big fan of foreign language films, I can watch some Japanese movies all day, however, they are the exception to the rule after all, but 'the orphanage' is in Spanish.
This is a film from the same dude that made 'pan's labyrinth' which i also enjoyed so it was worth a look imo.

The whole theme of the movie is dark and creepy from the outset, an ex-orphan inexplicitly decides to move her family into the place where she had so many happy childhood memories.
Memories that apparently were not so great for all the other orphans at the time.
, seeing as they are now the tortured souls haunting the place and generally freaking out the residents.
The normal ghost story cliches apply as they are echos of the past, and need to tell there story and set the record straight.

There was a good twist at the end tho, and well worth a watch even if something was lost in the subtitles.

I hate to admit it, but I watched broke back mountain, well, most of it anyway, I turned my head a few times and covered my cat's eyes.

Anyway it really wasn't a bad movie about a relationship, kind of a tormented twisted relationship between two cowboys who were rimming each other.

So....besides my imagining John Wayne doing flip flops in his grave it was OK.

I just watched that Family Guy movie, the Star Wars one.

It was quite good actually. I'd give it a 7 'cause I didn't laugh as much as I normally do with 'em, and it ís quite short.

Dude..!?!

He's surprised me too... I wasn't always sure he had it in him. I can't wait to see his masterpiece... I'm confident we're not there yet.

I watched Smokin Aces, it was one of those crazy all over the place kind of movies, with lots of killing and shooting and stuff, so you know it was good.

Ritual dos Sádicos, O

Awakening of the Beast

How can I possibly attach any sort of rating scale to this most triumph event of glorious cinematic feats.

You remember Reefer Madness? ...well, this is apparently the Brazilian counterpart...Originally released in 1969 at the height of drug confusion.

Quote:
Psychiatrist experiments LSD on 4 volunteers, to investigate Coffin Joe's influence over them. Each patient presents a different reaction, involving sex, perversion and sadism.

Zé do Caixão = Coffin Joe = José Mojica Marins = writer = director

Think: Warhol's love child meets Satan, the psychologist with a multiple personality disorder... apparently it brings out the beast in everybody.

It felt very: Federico Fellini on bad drugs.

I watched The River last night, it's an old Mel Gibson movie, I'd never seen the whole thing before, it was about a farmer being forced out of business. Mel kind of sucked trying to play a midwest farmer, and the movie was depressing, I mean Ma got caught in the thresher, the cow died, the farm flooded, they had to sell everything but Ma's pussy to eat, I would have been glad to sell that fucking shithole and move to the city.

You know this was shot near where I live?

And that Mel's daughter, the brunette version of Annie caught eating oreos in the truck... was my best friend in high school... And for a lil bit of trivia: Becky's first kiss was her co-star brother.

And the lady in that scene with the dozer (I believe there's only one lady running a dozer, btw) is my favorite (local) story teller. Well, she's not local any more, she moved near Chicago, but still... further trivia: she doesn't shave.

I would challenge you on these nifty facts, but I learned my lesson when someone claimed that they went to school with Mary Lou Retton.

The last flick I watched was Empire of the Sun, with a very young Christian Bale in it. I've seen the film 100 times and never realised till last night.

I don't need to rate it, as if you haven't seen it you should be shot in the face with a 12 guage.

Typhoon

It's an epic piece. A battle straddling the archetypal fence between good and evil with a fine line drawn between that ever-so-intense Asian male bonding and a merely plutonium platonic. Deep... yet it could have easily gone deeper.

It reminded me I should be watching more Korean film.

I might consider actually rating this one.

I recently watched "Young & tight". The plot was a sticky mess, lots of gang scenes and shooting.
No Korean, but some Asain.
I give it one thumb up.

30 Days Of Night
Decent enough vampire movie , some nice gory scenes of decapitation. Good ending.
6/10

Lars And The Real Girl
Now this is one of those movies that I liked but frustrated me. The skinny is this guy buys a 'real doll' on the internet and intruduces it to his freinds and family as his new girlfriend, takes the doll to church, parties etc. But at no point does anyone say ' WTF dude, shes not real' .
A quirky, feel good comedy which is quite deep and dare i say it, touching.
Some genuine LOL moments here and there, So I would definatly recomend it.
7/10

I watched Barberella (sp?) last night, old movie from like the early 70's with Jane Fonda, some damn old sci fi crap, it sucked donkey balls. But I must say there was nudity and Jane Fonda had a hell of a body.
How would you rate: Sucked balls, but a fine ass naked Jane Fonda?
